President Danilo Medina held a bilateral meeting with President-elect Jimmy Morales of Guatemala shortly before his inauguration yesterday, 14 January 2016 in Guatemala City. President Medina traveled to Guatemala yesterday afternoon to attend the inauguration ceremony. Medina traveled with Foreign Minister Andres Navarro and Administrative Minister Jose Ramon Peralta. Medina is scheduled to return this evening, Friday 15 January 2016.
The Dominican Republic has a free trade agreement with Central America, Guatemala-included. It also plays an active role in the Central American Integration System (SICA).
In Guatemala City, President Medina also met with Edmond Mulet, the United Nations Secretary General’s cabinet chief. The meeting was attended by Alicia Barcena, secretary general of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and Valerie Julliand, UN resident and humanitarian coordinator for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Guatemala. Julliand has also held the same post in the Dominican Republic.
