President Danilo Medina inaugurated a public school and a day care center during his visit to Bonao on Wednesday, 13 January 2016.
The new public schools are the Escuela Especial de Bonao in La Villa with 20 classrooms, the 11-classroom Centro Educativo Nieve Gutierrez in the barrio Hogar de Ninas and the Estancia Infantil Lino Abreu daycare center in the Lino Abreu barrio with capacity for 226 children.
The Ministry of Education reports that there are 181 public schools with 40,072 students enrolled in Monsenor Nouel province, of which Bonao is the capital. 122 of the public schools are located in the city of Bonao, with 29,942 students enrolled. 70 are already offering the extended day school program with 17,976 students, including 45 in the provincial capital.
