The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has announced that fuel prices will decrease once again. Premium gasoline will be reduced by RD$3.30 to RD$173.70, and regular gasoline will now cost RD$156.40 which is a reduction of RD$3.20. Premium diesel will decrease by RD$4.10 to cost RD$125.30, and regular diesel will be reduced by RD$3.80 to cost RD$115.20.
Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) will do down by one peso to RD$77.80.
El Caribe reports that taxes and profit margins are around 200% of the actual price of fuel. Last week, the Petroleum Refinery placed a gallon of premium gasoline at RD$59.15 but add to this RD$38.63 per gallon in margins to retailers, wholesalers and transporters of the fuel. The big difference though are taxes that are RD$81.32 per gallon, with a breakdown to RD$71.85 per Law 112-00 on Hydrocarbons, and RD$9.47 for ad valorem tax set by Tax Reform Law 405-06.
