An unknown attacker has shot the mayor of the municipal district of Las Frios in Padre Las Casas, in the southwestern province of Azua, along with his wife while they were at home.
At around 9pm on Sunday evening, 24 January 2016, Mayor Marino Delgado Lagares, 57, was shot in the head, and his 44-year old wife Confesora Delgado Vicente was grazed by bullets on several parts of her body.
Delgado Lagares was first taken to the San Juan medical center and from there transferred to Plaza de la Salud in Santo Domingo where he is said to be stable. His wife was treated and discharged.
At present there are no indications that the motive was robbery and the police say six people are under investigation.
