The Leones del Escogido defeated the Tigres del Licey at the Quisqueya Stadium yesterday evening, Tuesday 26 January 2016, after winning five of only six games played. Despite leading the regular and round robin comfortably, including 12 straight games in the round robin, the Tigres seemed to deflate at the end.
The last game was won 8-4. This is the 16th championship that the Leones have won since the league resumed in 1951. The Tigres have won on 22 occasions, while the Leones del Escogido have won four of the past seven championships, the last win being in 2012-2013.
The team now gets a rest and will restructure with some players from other teams to prepare to represent the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series that opens at the Quisqueya Stadium on 1 February 2016. Teams from Venezuela, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico will be playing in the regional tournament.
