The Center for Exports and Investments (CEI-RD) has announced it will be hosting a major Export Fair at the Sans Souci Convention Hall in Santo Domingo from 27-29 June 2016. The fair is being organized to showcase the great diversity of export products for sale.
The CEI-RD is busy inviting around 1,000 international buyers from sectors from over 50 countries, including agribusiness, construction, manufacturing, health, beauty, IT and cultural goods.
Statistics from the Center for Exports and Investments (CEI-RD) show that exports were 8% lower than expected in 2015. Preliminary figures point to total exports of US$9.6 billion, or US$300 million lower than the US$9.92 billion exported in 2014. The CEI-RD had forecast exports of US$10.5 billion for the year.
The decline is due to regional and external factors, such as the ban on exports implemented by the United States and Haiti, and the decline in gold prices on international markets.
CEI-RD director Jean-Alain Rodriguez said that the DR has excellent infrastructure, advantageous trade agreements and more than 3,780 product lines currently available being exported to 170 countries.
