New poll shows second round

A recent poll carried out by the Mexican company Votia has shown that Danilo Medina would receive 46.2% of the vote and Luis Abinader would receive 41.1%, making it necessary for a second round of voting in 2016.

For the poll, 1,200 people were contacted across the country from 18-23 January 2016. The poll says the results have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2%.

The other candidates mentioned by voters were Guillermo Moreno (AP) 3.0%, Amable Aristy (PLR) 1.1%, Minou Tavarez Mirabal (OD) 2% and Pelegrin Castillo (FNP) 1.4%. A total of 2.1% said they would vote for none of the candidates and 3.1% did not know for whom they would vote.
