Hundreds of users of the Santo Domingo Metro are complaining about the high price of the Metro card since the Metro raised the cost of single fares.
Passengers who do not have the plastic card that allows the purchase of multiple fares at RD$20 each now have to pay an additional RD$10 to buy a paper ticket. These are sold for RD$35 compared to RD$20 with the plastic card.
The rechargeable plastic card, which used to cost RD$100, has been increased to RD$200.
People can still ride the Santo Domingo Metro for the same fare as when it was initially launched in 2008, with a second line opened in 2013. An extension of the second line is expected to be in service before August 2016.
