The Caribbean Series that opens on Monday, 1 February 2016 at the Quisqueya-Juan Marichal Stadium in Santo Domingo will be dedicated to Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame member Juan Marichal.
Dominican Professional Baseball League president Leonardo Matos Berrido and Caribbean Baseball Confederation president Juan Francisco Puello made the announcement yesterday, Thursday 28 January 2016. They added that on the occasion of the Series, the construction of a statue of Marichal would start at the stadium to honor the pitcher who had 243 Major League wins and 142 losses.
Teams from Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Cuba and the DR will be playing in the series from 1-7 February 2016.
A homerun derby has been organized for Wednesday, 3 February at 7pm with the participation of Dominican star players David Ortiz, Robinson Cano and Vladimir Guerrero, as well as Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera and Cuban Alfredo Despeigne.
The series will be transmitted nationwide by Digital 15 and CDN.
