Eminent Dominican ophthalmologist Herbert Stern has been admitted to Spain’s prestigious Royal Academy of Medicine. Academy president Joaquin Posh Broto announced Stern’s appointment on 11 December 2015.
Stern is a graduate of the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena medical school (1975-1983). He specialized in ophthalmology at the Jimenez Diaz Foundation’s Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion Clinic in Madrid.
He is the founder of the Clinica Oftalmologica de Santo Domingo, as well as the author of the History of Dominican Medicine.
