The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has announced that there are now 262,168 more people eligible to vote compared to the 2012 electoral roll. The voting list is up 4.03%.
For the 15 May 2016 general election, 6,765,134 Dominicans are eligible to vote. This includes 3,439,354 women, for 50.84%.
The five provinces with the highest number of voters are Santo Domingo (20.65%), the National District (10.84%), Santiago (10.34%), San Cristobal (5.52%) and La Vega (4.21%).
The JCE has delivered the new voters list to the political parties for their observations, which need to be returned in five days prior to the issue of the final voting list.
The 2016 general election political campaign officially opens on Tuesday, 2 February 2016.
