Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario declared political campaigning for legislators, municipal officials and President and Vice President open yesterday, Tuesday 2 February 2016. The political parties have to register their candidacies by 30 March 2016 and the general election takes place on 15 May 2016. Rosario promised that the results would be released on the same evening after the vote closes at 6pm. He promised to uphold the JCE’s high credibility levels as reflected by polls carried out by Gallup-Hoy, Newlink and Latinobarometro.
The JCE announced that 26 political parties, a provincial political movement and seven political municipal movements have been authorized to participate.
