The National Basketball Association has announced that the 40th Superior National District Basketball Tournament opens at the Palacio de los Deportes in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in Santo Domingo on Thursday, 18 February 2016. This year’s tournament will be dedicated to Hugo Cabrera, the first Dominican to be drafted by the NBA and a former national basketball team member.
The National District teams are Huellas del Siglo (Cristo Rey), El Millon, Club Bameso, Mauricio Baez, San Carlos, Los Prados, San Lazaro and Rafael Barias.
The Santiago Superior Basketball Tournament begins on Wednesday, 17 February 2016 at the Gran Arena del Cibao. The Santiago teams are Domingo Paulino (CDP), Fernando Valerio (Plaza), los Pepines (cupes), Pueblo Nuevo, Savica, Mejoramiento Social, Ejido (Sameji) and Gregorio Urbano Gilbert (GUG).
Both events are organized by the Dominican Basketball Federation.
