President attends Hard Rock Hotel construction launch

President Danilo Medina has attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Santo Domingo to be built on Abraham Lincoln Avenue at the intersection with Jose Andres Aybar Street in Piantini. The 42-floor high-rise will have 400 luxury rooms and suites. Its promoters say it will be the tallest building in Santo Domingo. Costs are estimated at US$50 million.

Speaking at the ceremony yesterday, Monday 8 February 2016, Roberto Chapur, president of the hotel company’s Mexican franchise-holder and Jon Lucas, executive vice president of hotel and casino operations for the Hard Rock chain said the hotel should be open for business by the end of 2017. He said he did not expect this to be the Mexican company’s last investment in the country as they were also considering ventures in Samana and Puerto Plata.

The company is the owner of the Hard Rock Punta Cana Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana.

Minister of Tourism Francisco Javier Garcia, Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo, and the executive director of the Center for Export and Investment in the DR, Jean Alain Rodriguez were also present.
