According to the director of the National Police Central Anti Narcotics Agency (DICAN), General Edward Sanchez Gonzalez, they have impounded 3,224.64 pounds of marijuana from August 2015 to January 2016. There have also been 8,864 raids during which 196,076 grams of cocaine, 3,103 grams of crack and 2.1 grams of heroin were also confiscated.
During the same six-month period 8,606 drug dealers were arrested, including 133 women.
As well as the drugs, the agency also confiscated RD$3,151,749, US$1,647, 2,950 euros and 3,000 Haitian gourdes, as well as 98 small firearms, 16 large firearms, 951 motorcycles, 96 vehicles, 1,599 cell phones, 238 weighing scales and 14 walkie-talkies.
