Five men have been convicted and sent to jail for 20 years each for a haul of 700 kilos of cocaine that was found on 13 August 2013 in the National Park of the East, in a cave near San Rafael del Yuma.
The sentence was imposed by a court in La Altagracia province presided by Judge Sagrario del Rio with another two judges, Domingo Duverge and Vicente Martes Jimenez.
The men are Cristobal Rodriguez Rodriguez (Bolo), Manuel Cedeno Cedeno, Angiro Israel Tavares Berroa (Pico), Edmund Rafael Fernandez (Mono) and Lian Lesbyn Lybo Larrada.
In addition, they were each ordered to pay a RD$5 million fine. They will serve their sentence at the Anamuya Rehabilitation and Correction Center in Higuey.
Their lawyers say they will appeal.
