Leading opposition candidate, Luis Abinader of the PRM presented figures on daily government spending yesterday, Monday 15 February 2016, labeling it wasteful.
Abinader says that in the 253 working days of 2015 the government spent RD$49 million a day on payrolls outside the formal government system (believed to be political patronage jobs) while it only invested RD$40 million a day in the Police.
He points out that the government spends RD$5 million a day on organizing events, while investing barely RD$910 thousand in border security with Haiti.
He criticized the government for spending RD$5 million on luxury vehicles and pick-ups for government officials, while barely RD$158,000 goes towards farming machinery.
He said that the government spends RD$10 million a day on fuel for its officials (excluding the Police and Armed Forces) and invests barely RD$6 million in early childhood education.
Abinader concluded by saying that the government spends RD$31 million a day on per diems for government officials and RD$7 million a day on the President’s surprise visits. http://www.diariolibre.com/noticias/politica/abinader-ofrece-datos-y-reta-a-que-lo-desmientan-KD2746509
