The Ladies’ Factory nightclub, also known as “The Bunny Girls” on Calle Los Tainos in Fruisa in the municipality of Veron-Bavaro has been closed down after authorities discovered around 31 women who were apparently working as prostitutes there.
According to a press release, the nightclub was closed after the Specialized Prosecution Service against the Illicit Traffic of Migrants and the Specialized Prosecution Service for Money Laundering raided the premises.
The owner, Lorenzo Areche Melo was arrested during the raid along with employees Joaquin Guerrero Garrido, Miguel Polanco Vasquez, Amos Jean Pierre, Juan Isidro Rosario Batista, Victor Luis Pinales, Edwin Perez and Juan Manuel Herrera Espinosa.
The release states that Areche Melo was allegedly promoting the Dominican Republic as a sex destination overseas, as well as on billboards placed across La Altagracia province.
It is thought that the business provided a good income from prostitution with the basic rate for sex being US$160. During the raid the Prosecution Service retrieved various items and substantial sums of cash in various currencies.
