Rescue services are still searching for more than 15 people who are missing from an illegal boat trip to Puerto Rico. The boat capsized earlier this week and although eight people were rescued there are still several missing.
The Dominican Air Force and the Armada (Navy) are searching an area some 25 nautical miles off the coast of Guayacanes in the province of San Pedro de Macoris, the departure point. The United States Coast Guard and the Civil Defense are helping with the search.
The missing passengers include 48-year old Antonio Mercedes Bastardo, a father of six from San Pedro de Macoris, 29-year old Rosalba Polanco Rodriguez and 22-year old Leidy Rodriguez from Nagua, and 41-year old Juan Carlos Ramirez Santana from San Pedro de Macoris.
