Rafael Alburquerque: gasoline should cost RD$45 less

Former president of the Senate Rafael Alburquerque says that the price of unleaded regular gasoline should be RD$45 cheaper in the DR.

Alburquerque was the author of the Hydrocarbons Law 112 that was approved in 2000. Alburquerque says the government is incorrectly applying the law, which pegs fuel prices to market prices. He says the government tax should be no more than RD$42.00, but the Ministry of Industry and Commerce is taxing RD$71.85. He also criticized the Ministry of Industry and Commerce for adjusting profit margins for fuel stations outside of the law, affecting consumers.
