A National District judge has ordered the immediate release of Luis Gabriel Viloria Soriano, husband of television personality Ibelka Ulerio who was in pre-trial detention accused of credit card cloning, fraud and other crimes.
Judge Tania Yunes made the decision following an appeal from his lawyers who claimed he was in prison illegally, as a previous National District judge had already agreed to his release on RD$5 million bail and an exit ban.
However, the National District prosecution service would not release him from prison as they accuse him of belonging to one of the most powerful organized crime networks in Latin America that cloned credit cards causing major problems for the national and international financial systems as well as at least 5,000 Dominicans and three national banks.
According to the prosecution, 26 credit cards were found in the couple’s house, seven in Ulerio’s name and five in her husband’s name, while the remaining 14 were in other people’s names. There were also documents linked to credit card cloning, information about ATMs, checks, firearms and deposit receipts in both names.
A Venezuelan and another Dominican were accused of belonging to an international credit card cloning gang that had defrauded individuals and banks of more than RD$100 million.
