Hospital services will once again be suspended, this time for 72 hours when the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) and other unions go on strike over the next few days after negotiations with the Health Ministry broke down yesterday, Tuesday 23 February 2016. CMD president Dr. Waldo Ariel Suero would not confirm the exact time and date for the forthcoming strike but said that there would also be a march to the Presidential Palace.
Suero accused Health Minister, Dr. Altagracia Guzman Marcelino of not taking their demands seriously and having nothing to offer them but had only said that they would conduct an economic feasibility study to calculate how much it would cost to provide the doctors, nurses and other health workers with a pension.
President Medina has said that the dialogue should continue until an agreement is reached.
