The world-famous Timberland Company occupies 14 buildings in the Santiago North Industrial Park (Pisano), employing thousands of workers and exporting nearly four million pairs of shoes and boots from the DR a year.
Their projection for the next few years is to double their workforce as well as their output that is sold throughout the world.
Diario Libre reporters recently visited several of the factories accompanied by vice president of production and distribution for the Americas, Donnie Dyer Tercero and the corporate social responsibility department manager, Pedro Jimenez.
They said that Timberland produces more than 200 styles of shoes in more than 1,000 colors. They also pointed out that the company was among the pioneers in the Dominican Republic free zone sector.
Jimenez described the corporate social programs that are designed to protect the environment and provide safety to employees and company visitors. They said that 70% of the raw material used in the manufacture of the products is imported from Asia and the United States while another 30% is acquired in the Dominican Republic.
