Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario has warned that if senators and deputies fail to comply with the resolution against using social assistance packages or slush funds during the rest of the electoral campaign, the JCE plenary would take action. Rosario was speaking during a meeting with political parties at the JCE headquarters yesterday, Sunday 28 February 2016. The JCE plenary has ordered the suspension of the social assistance fund (barrilito) until June, after the 16 May 2016 election.
Rosario said the JCE would soon rule against city officials using social funds.
Legislators have stated that the JCE does not have the authority to restrict the use of the social funds that are assigned to them in the National Budget.
