Alfredo Martinez has been chosen to run for mayor in Santo Domingo East. The PLD announced that Martinez obtained 27.8% in the most recent poll compared to 26.5 % obtained by Ricardo, who earlier polls had given the lead. Accepting that she would not be the candidate, Ricardo said that she feels satisfaction at having been a headline story and for achieving recognition for her professional track record. She said she respects the ruling party’s Political Committee and National Electoral Commission’s decision and the methodology they used to choose the candidate. Nevertheless, she said she did not understand how the people’s perception of her as the favorite had changed in such short time.
She said she would now concentrate on legislative projects such as a bill for first jobs for young people that she has promoted in Congress. She said that she represents women and young people.
