Ismael Sanchez (Aero Cycling Team) has won the third stage of the Vuelta Ciclistica Independencia taking place in the Dominican Republic. Sanchez recorded 4:37:42 on the Santo Domingo-Boca Chica-Juan Dolio-San Pedro de Macoris-La Romana-Miches route. Diego Ochoa of Colombia was second, just 17 seconds behind.
Colombian Cristian Torres leads the tournament with 8:55:21, followed by Sergio Godoy, Rafael Meran, and Ismael Sanchez.
The tour continues today, Tuesday 1 March 2016 starting at Av. San Vicente de Paul in Santo Domingo to take the 191-kilometer Autovia del Este – Sanchez – Samana leg of the race.
The Vuelta is the Caribbean’s leading cycling tour, the Independence Tour, now in its 37th year.??Overall, the cycling tour covers a 1,050km route and passes by San Pedro de Macoris, La Romana, Higuey, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Nagua, San Francisco de Macoris, Santiago and La Vega. ??21 national and international teams and 140 cyclists are taking part in the competition.
