A total of 984 packages of cocaine or heroin have been confiscated off the coast in Barahona in the southwest of the country in a joint operation between the Dominican Armada and the United States Coast Guard. The drugs were taken from a boat with seven Hondurans on board, now all in custody.
According to a press release issued by the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) yesterday, Tuesday 1 March 2016, the operation took place on an unspecified date 10 nautical miles from Barahona following an intelligence operation that followed a group of Honduran, Venezuelan and Dominican drug traffickers suspected of trying to bring large quantities of drugs into the country by sea en route to the final destinations in Europe and the United States.
