Political alliances filed at the JCE

Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario has announced the alliances submitted by political parties that will be taking part in the 15 May 2016 general election for municipal, legislative officials in addition to the President and Vice President.

The ruling PLD party has registered agreements with 13 recognized political organizations. The PLD allies at the presidential level are the PPC, Pasove, PCR, Moda, PAL, PRI, UDC, BISD, PLR, PDI, PSP and PTD and the PRD. Although the PRD was the voted party that received most votes in the past election, in 2016, the PRD’s challenge is to reach the 5% needed to receive significant funding from the JCE. The PRD has announced alliances with four parties.

The PRM registered its alliances with the PRSC, the Frente Amplio (Partido Revolucionario Social Democrata, Alianza por la Democracia), Dominicanos por el Cambio and the Partido Humanista Dominicano (PHD).

The JCE says that the alliances now need to be validated. Roberto Rosario said that the parties needed to have celebrated individual conventions to ratify the alliance. The JCE has five days to confirm the alliances.
