The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) and other public health sector unions have once again called for a national 72-hour strike at all the country’s public hospitals and the Dominican Institute of Social Security (IDSS) hospitals as of today, Tuesday 8 March 2016.
According to CMD president Waldo Ariel Suero, they were hoping that President Danilo Medina would decide to sit down and talk to them, either face-to-face or via a concrete proposal by the Health Ministry.
The health sector workers are pushing for an improvement in services provided by the hospitals along with a budget for them of 5% of GDP, a decent pension, major salary increase and more staff.
