Yesterday, Tuesday 8 March 2016, the Central Electoral Board (JCE) reminded political parties and candidates that they are prohibited from receiving donations and contributions for their political campaigns from foreign governments, companies or international organizations. He referred them to Article 47 of Electoral Law 275-97.
The reminder was issued after the local media quoted USAID director Alexandra Panehal apparently referring to US government support for LGBT candidates during the LGBT Summit held in Santo Domingo. The US Embassy later issued a note clarifying that the US government does not fund local politicians.
