Naudin case postponed again

The lawyer representing 53-year old Christophe Naudin, accused of coordinating the escape of two French pilots Pascal Fauret and Bruno Odos convicted to 20 years in jail for drug trafficking in the so-called Air Cocaine case, has delayed for a second time the hearing for imposition of pre-trial custody against him. The case will now be heard at 10am tomorrow, Thursday, 10 March 2016.

Naudin is being held at the Palacio de Justicia in Ciudad Nueva. His lawyer, Miguel Valerio said that he had not had enough time to prepare his defense, while accusing the Attorney General of violating Naudin’s rights in his extradition procedure, which was rejected by prosecutor Milciades Guzman. The lawyer also said that Naudin, an aviation security specialist, maintains his innocence and would demonstrate this in court.

The hearing had been postponed to give Naudin time to hire a lawyer and translator.

Naudin had told French media that he planned the escape, which is said to have cost EUR100,000.

The Attorney General office has also issued International Police (Interpol) arrest warrants for French MEP Aymeric Chauprade and his assistant Pierre Malinowski, who also admitted their role in the pilots’ escape to the French media.
