Speaking in Santo Domingo yesterday, Wednesday 9 March 2016, Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Ligia Amada Melo said that 7,000 of the 9,000 young men and women who were awarded government scholarships to pursue Masters and bachelor degrees overseas have since been hired and are earning salaries above the market average. The minister stressed that this is a demonstration of the end of the “brain drain” that used to occur with the students who would stay overseas after receiving their scholarships.
The minister told Listin Diario that they have an office that follows up on the graduates who are already working in the Dominican Republic. She said that the graduates from the scholarship programs had the advantage that their salaries are above the average of salaries in the Dominican Republic. “Our students are in high demand,” she said.
