Gallup-Hoy poll: Medina 60.3%, Abinader 30.6%

If the presidential election were to be held today, 60.3% of voters would give a yes to re-election for President Danilo Medina of the ruling PLD party. 30.6% would vote for Luis Abinader of the PRM and PRSC alliance. Guillermo Moreno of AlPais would obtain 3.5% of the vote, enough to maintain its category as a party. 1.3% would vote for Minou Tavarez Mirabal, running on the ticket of the Partido Alianza por la Democracia. This compares to 51.8% of Medina and 35.7% of Abinader in the previous January 2016 poll.

68.4% of eligible voters expect President Danilo Medina to be the next President of the country, compared to 22.2% for Luis Abinader, 0.4% for Guillermo Moreno.

The PLD rates the best in the poll. When asked for an opinion on the polls, 61.3% gave the PLD a good or very good rating, with only 22.5% giving it a bad or very bad rating. The PLD ally, the PRD received the contrary. 61.4% gave it a bad or very bad rating, with only 17.7% giving it a good or very good rating. The PRM received a 40.8% good or very good rating, with a 30.2% bad or very bad rating.

The March Gallup poll also revealed that 81% of eligible voters would like to see social and political change. Only 16 out of every 100 eligible voters believe that democracy works well in the Dominican Republic. 34.8% say very big changes are needed.

The poll was held from 3-8 March 2016, with 1,200 people polled nationwide.
