Yvonne Losos wins spot for Rio Olympics

48-year old Dressage rider Yvonne Losos de Muniz took the Rio de Janeiro Olympics spot available for Central and South American competitors. She wins the right to be the first Dominican to compete in the equestrian events in an Olympic Games. She qualified riding Foco Loco and Dondolo competing in the Wellington, Florida at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center’s Grand Prix Special on 4 and 6 March 2016.

She became the first show jumper from the Dominican Republic to win a medal at the Pan American Games when she won bronze on home soil at the 2003 Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Born in Nigeria, Yvonne Losos grew up in Kenya before moving to Germany as a teenager to begin equestrian training. Her family then moved to Canada before she made the Dominican Republic her home after marrying Eduardo Muniz.

FEI reports that the Dominican Republic now has entered dressage rider Yvonne Losos into the Olympic equestrian competition by virtue of a top finish from Central & South America in the individual FEI Olympic rankings, signifying the nation’s Olympic debut in the sport.
