According to the Gallup poll published in Hoy newspaper, 60.9% of the voting public is pessimistic about the economy. Only 16% feel positive about it.
There are major differences as to the view of the economy depending on the political affiliation of the respondents with 87.5% of those who support the opposition party, the PRM, saying the economy was not good. 46.2% of those who say they will vote for the ruling PLD party also responded by saying the economy was not doing well.
When it came to their personal financial situation, 46% of the 1,200 people polled said their situation was not good and only 20% said it was fine. The figures were slightly worse in the south of the country with 51.4% saying their situation was bad.
