President Danilo Medina inaugurated the new 40km road from Sabana de la Mar to Miches yesterday, Tuesday 15 March 2016. The 112km two-lane road is part of the Circuito Vial del Este (Eastern Circuit Roadway) linking Bavaro and Uvero Alto (Punta Cana) with Miches and Sabana de la Mar.
The road was built by Brazilian company Odebrecht at a cost of US$45 million. It passes by the communities of La Gina, La Culebra, Las Canitas and Magua.
Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo said that the opening of the road marks the completion of the government’s decade-long promise to connect the communities of the tourist areas of the east. He said that three provinces n La Altagracia, El Seibo and Hato Mayor n were now linked by a modern road.
Castillo added that they would continue work on the Hato Mayor, El Puerto and Los Llanos road and that works would soon begin on the construction and expansion of the Sabana de la Mar-Hato Mayor-Yerba Buena road.
He also added that the ferry terminal to Samana would soon also reach a new stage of development.
Also present at the meeting, along with President Medina was Marco Cruz, head of Odebrecht operations in the Dominican Republic.
