The lawyer for former colonel Rafael Herrera, Ingrid Hidalgo says that prosecutor general Francisco Dominguez Brito is rushing the Blas Peralta case when asking for 30 years in jail. Blas Peralta, the leader of the Fenatrado truckers association, is the main suspect in the murder of former UASD rector Mateo Aquino Febrillet.
As reported in El Nuevo Diario, the lawyer said that the charges have not been formally presented. She said that actions such as that taken by the prosecutor are what lead to cases to collapse. She was being interviewed by the press yesterday, Tuesday 15 March 2016 at the Palacio de Justicia in Ciudad Nueva, Santo Domingo, where the accused in the murder are held.
“Dominguez Brito always rushes things looking to make front page headlines and the cases collapse because of him, he does not investigate,” she observed.
One of the most incriminating pieces of evidence is the transcription of a mobile conversation between Herrera Pena and Blas Peralta in which they discuss how to cover up the crime. The transcript was obtained because the Police had been authorized by the judiciary to tap the mobile of Herrera Pena in the investigation of another crime of which he is suspect.
