Three qualify for taekwondo in Rio Olympic Games

In the Pan Am TaeKwonDo Qualification Tournament celebrated in Aguascalientes, Mexico from 10-11 March 2016, the DR pulled three spots to be among the 128 elite athletes to compete in taekwondo in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The DR filled three of its four possible slots per country. The athletes who qualified to compete in the Rio de Janeiro Games were Luis Pie, Moises Hernandez and Katherine Rodriguez.

This event was the last chance for regional taekwondo athletes to qualify for the Games.

During the event, the USA and the Dominican Republic each won three qualification places at the tournament. Colombia secured two places, while eight other countries returned home with one qualification place each. At the event, the top two finishers in each weight class earned a spot to compete in the 2016 Olympic Games.
