New government logistics and transportation website

The Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, in coordination with the Santo Domingo Technological Institute (Intec) has launched The National Working Group on Logistics and Transportation in the Dominican Republic, a public and private initiative sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

For the first time in the country the national performance indicators in the area of logistics and the supply chain can be monitored from a government website (www.onltrd.org.do). The website is expected to become an essential resource for consultations within the sector, according to a Ministry press release.

It will help identify opportunities for improving productive sector competitiveness while monitoring 56 logistical performance indicators along with service, infrastructure, social economic aspects and the environment.

During the launch yesterday, Wednesday 16 March 2016, the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Temistocles Montas stressed that the working group’s focus was on the productive sector within the framework of the National Development Strategy. The document seeks to contribute to the improvement of the nation’s competitiveness in the area of logistics, and to support the expansion and improvement of infrastructure and transportation services.

Montas pointed out that as much as 30% of production costs are linked to logistics and transportation.
