President Danilo Medina was in San Cristobal yesterday, Wednesday 16 March 2016 for the formal start of operations of a new cement mill that increases the capacity of the Domicem plant.
The vertical air-swept grinding mill manufactured by German brand Loesche will use all the waste ash from the Punta Catalina coal-fired plant that the government is installing nearby. Domicem is owned by the Inicia Group (formerly Grupo Vicini), which also owns the site of the Punta Catalina plant.
During the event, Domicem management board chairman Marco Focardi said that the new mill would enable them to reduce power consumption by 35% and increase production capacity by 10%. They said this contributes to their objective of consolidating their position as the most efficient cement company in the DR and the Caribbean.
