Investigators from the Office for the Prevention of Administrative Corruption raided the Dominican Football Federation offices in Santo Domingo on Wednesday afternoon, 16 March 2016. All of the Federation’s employees were denied entry. It is now known that the search was ordered to investigate the handling of RD$51 million received from the Ministry of Sports for the promotion of football in the country and for which Federation president Osiris Guzman has allegedly not accounted. The raid came two days after Guzman was announced as the replacement for the murdered former UASD rector Mateo Aquino Febrillet who had been the PRM candidate for senator for San Cristobal.
Osiris Guzman has served as the president of the Dominican Football Federation for some 20 years and was a vocal supporter of disgraced former FIFA president Sepp Blatter.
The Caribbean Football Union has been mentioned among the more corrupt organizations in the International Football Federation (FIFA) as part of the investigations surrounding the forced removal of FIFA Blatter and most of his top executives. ?
The National District judges’ coordinator, Jose Alejandro Vargas authorized the raid and the Specialized Prosecutors against Administrative Corruption (PEPCA) prepared the case against Guzman.
