The Ministry of Education has announced that teacher Ana Elia Mateo Abad of the Escuela Marta Rosa Castillo in Boca Chica was dismissed from her post after it was established that she and School Police sergeant Olquidea Medina Feliz had encouraged a fight between two boys in a classroom. A video of the fight appeared on social media. The police sergeant was also fired and the school principal, Hector D’Oleo Alcantara has been suspended.
In a separate case, the Ministry said that it has ordered the suspension of the principal of the Escuela Basica Nery Cueto in the south eastern province of La Romana after the death of 12-year old student Elizabeth Severino Morla, apparently due to bullying by fellow students at the public primary school. An autopsy is being carried out to establish the cause of the death.
