Tracing the links between Odebrecht scandal and the DR

Revelations emerging as part of Brazil’s Odebrecht corruption case are implicating the Dominican Republic. A report in Diario Libre says that the Norberto Odebrecht construction firm transferred funds to the DR, allegedly for paying bribes to officials from Petrobras, the scandal that is affecting the Dilma Rousseff presidency and that of her predecessor Luis Inacio “Lula” da Silva. Details of two transfers for US$2,749,980 each made to the Banco Popular Dominicano from the Odebrecht account in Brazil on 3 and 17 August 2009 appear in the court documents for the 19-year jail sentence imposed on Marcelo Odebrecht, the former president of Grupo Odebrecht.
