According to the Minister of Public Health, Altagracia Guzman Marcelino, emergency attention for critical patients is a right under the law as defined in the Constitution and the General Health Law 42-01.
She went on to say that they are investigating the case of former guerrilla Claudio Caamano Grullon who died following a car accident and was denied medical attention, and there may be legal ramifications following the investigation.
Guzman Marcelino said the investigation was being carried out by the Deputy Minister for Quality, Dr. Neftali Vasquez and the Deputy Minister for Collective Heath, Dr. Nelson Rodriguez Monegro.
The investigation will focus on the three medical centers to which Caamano Grullon was taken and establish the condition he was in at the time, how long he had to wait for assistance, the quality and attitude of the staff and the equipment that was available to assist him.
