The Dominican Republic is hosting the 10th Meeting of Foreign Relations Ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the 17th Meeting of National Coordinators at the same time at the Sheraton and Jaragua Hotels in Santo Domingo today, Wednesday 30, tomorrow Thursday 31 March and Friday 1 April 2016. Thirty foreign ministers from the Caribbean, Central America and South America will be discussing work plans at the technical level for the Temporary Presidency of CELAC that the DR holds this year.
The foreign ministers will meet to discuss political issues of interest to the region, such as extra-regional relations with the European Union, Russia, South Korea, India, Turkey, and with Japan and other Asian nations, as well as with the regional spokespersons of other multilateral organizations, among other matters, said Foreign Minister Andres Navarro. Navarro said that of the 33 CELAC members, 30 have sent their foreign ministers, including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, El Salvador, Antigua, Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Dominica, Ecuador, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, Surinam, Uruguay and Venezuela.
