Long Night of Museums: Saturday, 2 April 2016

Minister of Culture Jose Antonio Rodriguez has announced that the Spring Long Night of Museums event will take place tomorrow, Saturday, 2 April 2016. Most historic centers and government museums will remain open until midnight and special events are organized from 9am to midnight.

There will be artistic performances by the Dominican Folklore Dance Group and the chamber choir of the Ministry of Culture, Koribe. There also will be contemporary dance shows, DJ music and other attractions, said Ana Maria Conde, director general of museums for the Ministry of Culture. Dramatic performances, arts and crafts sales, mime artists, living statue shows and children’s activities are also planned. This year, the event is being extended to the Centro Leon and Monumento a los Heroes de Santiago in Santiago city. The closing of the event in Santiago will include a performance by grassroots merengue singer Geovanny Polanco. In Santo Domingo, the closing ceremony takes place at Plaza de Espana in the Colonial City with a performance by the Dominican National Ballet. In the Colonial City, events are planned for the Capilla de los Remedios, Plaza Maria de Toledo, Plaza Reloj del Sol and Plaza Espana.

Participating museums are:

Casa de Tostado, Fortaleza de Santo Domingo (Ozama), Museo Trampolin, Casas Reales, Alcazar de Colon, Centro Cultural Banreservas, Casa de Teatro, Centro Cultural de las Telecomunicaciones, Biblioteca Infantil y Juvenil Republica Dominicana.
