If you are a serious running enthusiast, consider visiting the Dominican Republic during the second week in June to take part in the Third 100Km of the Caribbean Dominican Republic Trial Run. The event is scheduled for 7-11 June 2016 with stages throughout the north coast. Last year, 350 runners took part, including 38 foreigners.
The stages on the 100 km program are:
10km in Cabarete
17km up from Puerto Plata, up Mount Isabel de Torres and back
18km Sosua to Laguna de Navarrete
45km in Las Terrenas starting from Playa Punta Popy to Punta Popy in Samana.
As set up, it is possible to run in only one or two stages, but competitors in the race will accumulate points for the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc race in Switzerland. The 100km del Caribe race is certified by the International Trail Association.
