The Judicial Branch Council has provisionally suspended the judge who freed five Venezuelans, Carlos Justiniano, Jorge Henriquez, Gregory Frias, Geraldo Diaz and Jean Carlos Diaz, who had been arrested and charged with possession of 359 kilos of cocaine at La Romana airport over the Easter holiday weekend.
Aristilda Mercedes Rodriguez’s suspension notice was signed by Judicial Council Branch president Mariano German Mejia and secretary general Edgar Torres Reynoso. Mariano German is also president of the Supreme Court of Justice.
The decision was taken during a council meeting yesterday, Tuesday 5 April 2016 by a majority decision to suspend her with only one vote against, by Leonardo Recio Tineo.
The Council instructed the General Inspectorate to conduct the investigation as quickly as possible and in the meantime, the arrested men are still in jail in La Romana.
