New poll shows gap narrowing

A new poll by US firm Zogby Analytics based on a survey carried out between 18 and 20 March 2016 on a national sample of 2,198 people has shown that if the presidential election were to be held today, President Danilo Medina would obtain 49.1% of the votes and Luis Abinader 44.3%.

The other candidates received the following percentages: Guillermo Moreno 2.7%, Minou Tavarez 0.5%, Pelegrin Castillo 0.4% and Hatuey Decamps 0.2%. The remaining 2.8% were undecided.

The results were also analyzed by region: in the Greater Santo Domingo area, Danilo Medina obtained 50.4% and Luis Abinader 42.7%. In the southern region, Medina had 48.9% and Abinader 45.3%, while in Santiago city Medina received 46.9% and Abinader 45.8%.
