Monica Moura, wife and partner of Danilo Medina’s campaign publicist Joao Santana has reportedly told the Brazilian Federal Police that Odebrecht financed presidential campaigns for Medina in the Dominican Republic, Hugo Chavez in Venezuela and Jose Eduardo Santos in Angola.
According to Brazilian newspaper O Globo, Moura has made statements that she and Santana had received US$7.5 million from Petrobras for this purpose, which was then paid into a bank account in the name of Shellbill Finance overseas and used by Odebrecht to fund the political campaigns.
The paper goes on to say that Moura is claiming that from 2011 President Danilo Medina received money from Shellbill Finance and that the late Hugo Chavez had also received US$35 million.
